Movie Review: "PARKER" Starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis, Nick Nolte
Let's be honest, I'm a HUGE Jason Statham fan, but this is not his best movie, NOT even close and it only grossed about 7 million in its opening weekend. Having said that, it was a great wrap up for my weekend when I saw it last night.
Interesting plot, and of course there's a double cross that sets Statham's character in "revenge" mode which propels the rest of the movie.
Note: This is the 2nd movie in 2 weeks that I have seen with Nick Nolte in it? 1st was last week's "Gangster Squad". What's up with that?
With his double crossers thinking they left him for dead. Statham heads off to Florida to confront them on their next job, a heist involving a rich Palm Beach socialite. Jennifer Lopez is especially "hot" as always and she really can act, so that's nice. She plays a real estate agent who thinks he's a rich Texan. Yes, I said Texan. It's over the top to see Statham as a 10 gallon hat wearing, Texas twang spewing Brit, and yet Lopez is only slightly suspicious he's not what he says he is? The rest of the movie is what made Jason Statham an action star.
Wait for it on DVD unless you're a HUGE fan like I am. Everyone else will just love to hate it. For almost 2 hours, I was not thinking about work, bills, or the BIG GAME that's coming up this Sunday. That's what I go to the movies for.
It's a bit part for Nolte who plays a guy that puts crews together for various jobs and is unknowingly responsible to hooking Statham up with the guys who double crossed him. The crew is led by Chiklis, who by the way, plays a great bad guy. Bobby Cannavale of Boardwalk Empire fame plays a cop in a very small role.
Large combo with a diet coke and some goobers please! See you at the movies.
